Parking, Reversing & Roadside StopsStandalone practice
How much ordinary parking clearance is required from the nearest rail of a railroad crossing?
Correct answer: At least 50 feet, with one narrow statutory exception.
Why
Ordinarily, do not park within 50 feet of the nearest rail at a railroad crossing. The statute excepts a vehicle parked parallel to the railroad and not exhibiting a red light. The reference is to the vehicle’s light; it is not a general permission whenever a crossing signal is dark. Other parking restrictions still apply.
