Turns, Lanes, Passing & MergingStandalone practice
When Iowa law permits passing on the right, where must the maneuver occur?
Correct answer: On unobstructed pavement, not on the shoulder.
Why
A right-side pass must fit an allowed roadway situation and be safe with sufficient clearance. Do not drive off the pavement, on the shoulder or on an intersecting road’s apron to overtake on either side. Space that merely fits a vehicle is not necessarily a legal passing lane.
