You make an ordinary left turn onto a two-way street with three lanes in your direction. No official controls direct a different course, and all three receiving lanes are open and clear. Under KRS 189.330, which lane should you enter?
A blue car faces north before a clear intersection. The two-way receiving street has three westbound lanes and one eastbound lane. No special turn course is marked, and none of the three westbound lanes is highlighted.
Correct answer: The extreme right-hand lane for your direction
Why
For an ordinary left turn, KRS 189.330(6)(b) specifies the extreme right-hand receiving lane lawfully available for your direction whenever practicable. Official signs or markings may direct a different course under subsection (7). Yield to hazardous opposing traffic and make the whole movement safely. A general nearest-left instruction does not describe Kentucky’s statutory default.
