A railway gate is lowered and the red warning lights are flashing. No officer or railway flagperson is directing you through. What should you do?
A approaches a lowered red-and-white crossing gate with active red warning lights. The card identifies the gate and active warnings.
Correct answer: Wait until the gate is fully up, the lights stop and it is safe.
Why
Do not drive through, around or under a lowered or moving railway gate. Wait for the normal warning phase to end and check every track before crossing without stopping. The Act has a separate exception after stopping for warning lights when a train is stopped or not close and crossing is safe; it does not override the lowered-gate condition. Follow an authorized officer or railway flagperson's directions with caution.
