Passing target: 88% (22/25)
An unobstructed paved road has two lanes for traffic in your direction. A slower vehicle is in the left lane. When may you pass it using the right lane?
A travels in the right of two same-direction lanes, with B ahead in the left lane. The question has no route, halo or highlighted passing permission.
Correct answer: When the right lane and the entire movement are clear and safe.
Why
Maryland permits a safe pass on the right on an unobstructed roadway wide enough for two or more lines moving lawfully in the same direction. A separate exception permits safely passing a vehicle making or about to make a left turn via a paved shoulder without leaving pavement. Neither exception permits forcing another road user aside or using an unsafe shoulder.
