Passing target: 80% (24/30)
Freeway traffic in your direction moves slowly in two lanes at about 15 mph. A motorcycle comes up at about 25 mph between your lane and the lane to your left. What should you do?
Cars A and B travel in adjacent freeway lanes at 15 mph. Motorcycle C approaches behind them along the lane divider at 25 mph, as stated in the stem.
Correct answer: Hold your lane position and your speed, and let the rider go past
Why
Lane splitting means that a motorcycle passes between moving cars. Lane filtering means that it passes between stopped cars. Both are legal in Minnesota when two or more lanes go in the same direction, and the rider may go no more than 15 mph faster than the traffic. A sudden move toward the lane line is the main danger to the rider, so check your mirrors before you change lanes in slow traffic.
