You drive on a road with signals over each lane. A steady red X is lit over your lane, and a green arrow that points down is lit over the lane to your right. What must you do?
A travels in the lane controlled by a steady red X; the lane to its right has a green downward arrow. No lane-change path appears.
Correct answer: Move safely to the lane under the green arrow, and do not drive in yours
Why
Lane-use control signals let the road authority change which lanes traffic may use at different times. A steady yellow X warns that a lane is about to close, and a steady red X means that you must not drive in that lane. Move over early and smoothly, because the closed lane may be used by traffic from the other direction or be blocked ahead.
