Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You are on a freeway with a 65 mph speed limit. You pass a sign that sets a 45 mph speed limit for a work zone. One lane is closed, workers are on foot next to the open lane, and the open lane is narrow. What speed rule applies to you?
Correct answer: Drive no faster than 45 mph, and go slower if the workers, the narrow lane or traffic make 45 mph unsafe.
Why
Road workers stand and move only a few feet from moving traffic, and the lanes in a work zone are often narrow or shifted. That is why many Minnesota work zones post a lower speed limit, and why speeding in a work zone brings a $300 fine on top of the regular ticket. Where no lower limit is posted, the normal posted limit still applies. In every work zone, slow down, stay alert and keep as much space as you can between your vehicle and the workers.
