Passing target: 80% (20/25)
You are stopped at a railroad crossing with two sets of tracks. A train has just passed, but the gate arm is still down and the red lights keep flashing. What should you do?
A is stopped before two railroad tracks. A red-and-white gate blocks A’s lane and the railroad red lamps remain active.
Correct answer: Stay stopped until the gate rises, then check for a second train before you cross.
Why
At a crossing with gates or flashing lights, you stop 15 to 50 feet from the nearest rail and stay there while the gate is down. The lights can keep flashing after a train has gone by, and a train that just passed can hide one coming on another track. When the gate is fully up, look both ways along each track and cross only when there is room for your whole vehicle on the far side.
