Passing target: 80% (20/25)
You are driving in the right lane when you pass a RIGHT LANE CLOSED AHEAD sign and a lower work-zone speed limit sign. You do not see any workers yet. What should you do?
A is in the right lane approaching a cone closure. The card states RIGHT LANE CLOSED AHEAD and a lower posted work-zone speed.
Correct answer: Slow to the posted work-zone speed and merge left into the open lane when there is a safe gap.
Why
Under Missouri law, a work zone begins where the first work-zone signs or devices are placed, not where the cones or workers are. Stay alert, put your phone and other distractions away, and watch for work vehicles entering or leaving the zone. In a shoulder work zone, where the work is on or beyond the shoulder, you still slow down as you approach.
