Traffic is backed up just past a railroad crossing. No train is in sight, and the crossing lights are dark. When may you start across the tracks?
A approaches a railroad crossing while a queue occupies the roadway beyond the tracks.
Correct answer: Only when there is room for your whole vehicle on the far side of the tracks
Why
A crossing is no place to wait in a traffic jam, because a train cannot stop quickly or swerve. Before you enter, look ahead and make sure your full vehicle length fits beyond the tracks. Never try to beat a train, and do not shift gears while you are on the tracks, so the engine does not stall there.
