Observation, Speed & SpaceStandalone practice
On a four-lane highway, you want to move into the left lane to pass. Your left and inside mirrors show the lane is clear. What should you do before you steer over?
A prepares to move left while B is near its left rear corner in the neighboring lane.
Correct answer: Signal, then take a quick look over your left shoulder to check the blind spot beside you.
Why
Blind spots are the areas beside and behind your vehicle that your mirrors do not show, and a whole car can sit there unseen. Keep the head check short so you do not lose track of the traffic ahead. Also avoid driving in another vehicle's blind spot: move ahead within the speed limit or drop back so the other driver can see you.
