Passing target: 80% (24/30)
On a two-lane highway posted at 70 mph, you come up behind a farm tractor moving at about 20 mph in your lane. What does Montana law require?
A approaches a farm tractor traveling in the same lane on a two-way road.
Correct answer: Slow down to the tractor's speed, and pass only where passing is allowed and safe.
Why
A 2025 Montana law also says that when you meet farm equipment coming toward you, you must slow to half the posted limit and, on a multi-lane road, move out of the lane next to the center line when safe. Farm equipment usually travels 25 mph or less and shows an orange slow-moving vehicle emblem. Its operator must pull off at a safe turnout when a line of traffic forms behind it.
