Passing target: 80% (24/30)
A city street has a center lane marked on each side with a solid yellow line and a broken yellow line, and left-turn arrows point both ways in it. You want to turn left into a driveway three blocks ahead. What may you do?
A travels next to a shared center lane with opposing left-turn arrows and solid outer, broken inner yellow boundaries. Its driveway is still three blocks ahead.
Correct answer: Enter the center lane shortly before the driveway, then turn when the way is clear.
Why
Drivers from both directions use the same center lane to wait for their left turns, so a vehicle can be coming toward you in it. Signal, move in close to your turn, and wait there until oncoming traffic is clear. Montana law allows a vehicle in this lane only when it is turning left onto or off the roadway, or making a lawful U-turn.
