You are on a two-lane road with double solid yellow center lines. You want to turn left into a store parking lot. What does Montana law allow?
A faces right on a two-way road with two solid yellow center lines. A store parking-lot entrance is across the road to A’s left.
Correct answer: You may cross them to turn left if it is safe and does not hinder oncoming traffic.
Why
Signal, yield to oncoming traffic, and wait for a gap that lets you finish the turn without making oncoming drivers slow down. The manual says crossing a solid center line is allowed only as part of a left turn. Yellow lines separate traffic moving in opposite directions, and white lines separate lanes going the same way.
