Your car's muffler has rusted through. The engine now roars, and you notice an exhaust smell inside the car. What should you do?
Correct answer: Have it repaired soon; it must stop excessive noise, and fumes can kill.
Why
The exhaust system carries toxic gases away from the engine and cuts engine noise. Most exhaust problems are leaks that you can hear, which makes them easy to find and fix. Never run the engine in a closed garage, and open a window if you must sit in a parked car with the engine on.
