Traffic Signals & Road MarkingsStandalone practice
You are waiting to turn left at a signal that shows a flashing yellow arrow pointing left. Oncoming cars are moving through the intersection. What does the arrow allow you to do?
A left-pointing yellow arrow is illuminated in a traffic signal; the accompanying cue identifies it as flashing.
Correct answer: Yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians, then turn in a safe gap.
Why
Many Montana intersections now use flashing yellow arrows for left turns. You must judge the gap yourself, as with any unprotected left turn, and watch for pedestrians in the crosswalk you will turn across. If you are not sure the gap is big enough, wait.
