Your light turns green, and you start a right turn. A pedestrian is walking in the crosswalk of the street that you are turning into, directly in your path. What must you do?
A faces a green traffic light and intends to turn right. A pedestrian occupies the receiving lane at the marked crosswalk.
Correct answer: Wait for the pedestrian to cross out of your path, then turn.
Why
A green light gives permission to go, not a right to drive into people or vehicles that are already in the way. Pedestrians who face a green light may cross in a marked or unmarked crosswalk, so look for them before and during every turn. Turning drivers must also yield to vehicles that are lawfully in the intersection.
