Freeways & High-Speed RoadsStandalone practice
You want to change lanes on a busy interstate. About how large a gap in the other lane should you look for?
A is in the right lane, beside a space between two cars traveling in the left lane.
Correct answer: About 4 seconds, which leaves 2 seconds in front and behind
Why
The manual calls for a gap of about 4 seconds for any lane change, for entering a roadway, and where two lanes merge into one. Do not squeeze into a small gap, because it can close fast and leave you boxed in. Signal early and check your mirrors and blind spot so you can judge the gap before you move.
