Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You are driving on a four-lane interstate far from any town. You are not passing anyone, and no one is entering. Which lane should you use?
Two clear interstate lanes have white arrows pointing in the same direction. No travel lane is highlighted.
Correct answer: The right-hand lane; use the left lane to pass
Why
Montana law requires drivers on a road with two or more lanes in the same direction to use the right-hand lane. Exceptions include passing, moving faster than the flow of traffic, moving left to let traffic merge, preparing for a left turn or left exit, avoiding hazards, and driving on streets inside city limits; interstates inside city limits still follow the keep-right rule unless signs say otherwise. Keeping right leaves the left lane free for passing and cuts down on risky lane changes.
