Passing target: 80% (20/25)
On a two-lane road, you overtake a bicyclist who rides in the same direction. What is the least side clearance that Nebraska law allows while you pass?
A overtakes B, a bicyclist traveling in the same direction, using the other lane of a two-lane road.
Correct answer: 3 feet, kept until you are safely past the rider
Why
The 3-foot space gives a rider room to steer around potholes, gravel, and pavement seams without being hit. If oncoming traffic or a narrow road stops you from giving 3 feet, slow down and wait behind the rider. Current Nebraska law also treats bicyclists as vulnerable road users: on a road with one lane in your direction, reduce your speed as you pass; where your direction has two or more lanes, move into a lane away from the rider when you can.
