Passing target: 80% (20/25)
It is raining, and you are following a motorcycle. How should your following distance compare with the gap that you leave behind a car?
Blue A follows motorcycle B in rain on wet pavement. The vehicle types and weather are visible without a numbered gap.
Correct answer: A larger gap than behind a car, and larger still because the road is wet.
Why
It is hard to judge how fast a motorcycle is going, and a rider may have to slow down or swerve for a pothole or a gust of wind. Wet roads are a real problem for riders, and your own stopping distance also increases in the rain. When you come up behind a motorcycle, start to slow down sooner than you would for a car.
