You park on a street, and there is a bike lane right next to your driver's door. What should you do before you open the door?
Blue A is parked at the right curb with a bicycle lane beside the driver’s door. The driver is ready to get out.
Correct answer: Check your mirror, look back for bicyclists, and open the door when the lane is clear.
Why
A bicyclist who hits a door that opens suddenly can be thrown into the traffic lane. Nevada law says that you must not open a door on the traffic side in a way that interferes with moving traffic, and you must not leave it open longer than needed. Passengers who get out on the traffic side must check too.
