You wait on a green light to turn right. The pedestrian signal for the crosswalk you will cross shows a flashing hand with a countdown at 12. A pedestrian steps off the curb into that crosswalk. What should you do?
A waits on green in the northbound approach to turn right onto the eastbound street. B has stepped north from the corner curb into the crosswalk on that receiving street. A detail shows the pedestrian signal’s flashing hand with 12 on the countdown.
Correct answer: Yield and let the pedestrian cross, then turn when the crosswalk is clear.
Why
Nevada's rule depends on the timer: a flashing hand with a countdown lets a pedestrian start across, but a flashing hand without a countdown does not. For a driver, the duty does not change: yield to people in the crosswalk and wait until they are safely out of your path. A pedestrian who is still crossing when the countdown ends must get to a safe place quickly, and you must let the person finish.
