Passing target: 80% (20/25)
At a railroad crossing ahead, red lights flash and the gate arm starts to come down. A train is approaching. Where must you stop?
Northbound A approaches a crossing where a train comes from the left, red mast lamps flash and a gate starts to lower. A is well back from the rails.
Correct answer: No closer than 15 feet and no farther than 50 feet from the nearest rail
Why
This stopping area keeps your vehicle clear of the train and still lets you see the tracks. Stay stopped until the train has passed and you can cross safely, and never drive around, under or through a gate that is down or moving. Where there is more than one track, wait until you can see clearly in both directions before you start across, because a second train may be coming.
