Traffic Signals & Road MarkingsStandalone practice
You drive a car and have stopped at a steady red light. You want to go straight, and no cross traffic is coming. When may you go?
A is stopped at a circular red traffic light and intends to go straight. The cross street is empty.
Correct answer: When your light turns green and the intersection is clear.
Why
A steady red light gives the intersection to other traffic, even if you cannot see that traffic yet. Stop behind the stop line or crosswalk, or before the intersection if neither is marked. Only a permitted turn on red may begin before green, and the two-cycle rule is for motorcycles, mopeds, bicycles and similar vehicles, not for cars.
