Passing target: 80% (20/25)
You stop for a red light. A wide white stop line is painted across your lane a few feet before the crosswalk. Where should the front of your car stop?
A approaches a red signal. A wide white stop line crosses its lane before the painted crosswalk; A is well back from both reference points.
Correct answer: Behind the stop line, before any part of your car crosses it.
Why
The stopping point follows an order: the stop line; if there is none, the near side of the crosswalk; if neither is marked, before you enter the intersection. A stop at the correct point keeps the crosswalk free for pedestrians and gives turning vehicles room. Stop lines are used at signals as well as at stop signs.
