Passing target: 80% (32/40)
You drive on a road where a broken white line separates your lane from the lane on your left. You want to move left to get around a slow car. Where must you look for traffic that could hit you when you move over?
A follows a slower B in the right lane. A broken white line separates the empty left lane, which goes in the same direction.
Correct answer: Behind and beside you, in the mirrors and with a head check, because both lanes go your way
Why
Line color tells you the direction of traffic: white lines separate lanes that go the same way, and yellow lines separate traffic that goes in opposite directions. Line pattern tells you if you may cross: broken lines allow a lane change or a pass when it is safe, and solid white lines tell you to stay in your lane. When you cross a white line, the usual danger is a car that comes up fast in the next lane or sits in your blind spot.
