You follow a slow car on a two-lane road. Double solid yellow lines mark the center, and they continue over a hill as far as you can see. What may you do?
A follows a slow car on a two-lane road with double solid yellow center lines that continue over a hill. A side profile identifies the crest that blocks A’s view.
Correct answer: Stay behind the car, because you must not cross a solid line on your side to pass
Why
Double solid yellow lines mark a no-passing area for both directions, often where hills, curves or intersections limit the view. State law lets a driver cross a solid line on the driver's side only in a few cases, for example to turn into a driveway, to pass a bicyclist or pedestrian when it is safe, in an emergency, to move away from a stopped vehicle with warning lights, or with a clear view to the end of the solid line. Over a hill you cannot see where the lines end, so wait at a four-second distance until a broken line is on your side.
