A freight train clears a crossing that has two sets of tracks. The gate begins to rise, but the lights are still flashing, and the train blocked your view of the second track. What should you do?
A waits before a crossing with two tracks, a 2 TRACKS plaque and flashing red lights. The freight train has cleared from view and the gate is only beginning to rise, as shown by the enlarged gate detail.
Correct answer: Wait until the lights stop, the gate is up, and both tracks are clearly empty
Why
A long train can hide a second train that is coming on the other track, from either direction. The manual says not to cross until the lights stop flashing and you have a clear view of the tracks in both directions. When the crossing is clear, look both ways again and cross without stopping on the tracks.
