Passing target: 80% (32/40)
Your traffic signal shows a steady red light. A police officer standing in the intersection looks at you and waves you through. What should you do?
A faces a red signal at the intersection. An officer faces west toward eastbound A and beckons it through; the same approved gesture is enlarged in a detail.
Correct answer: Go ahead with care, because the officer's direction takes priority over the red light.
Why
Officers direct traffic when signals fail, after crashes and at busy events, and they can see conditions that the signal cannot. New Hampshire law also requires drivers to obey school crossing guards and work-zone flaggers. Still look both ways before you move, because other drivers may not notice the officer.
