Passing target: 80% (32/40)
You stop at a red light and plan to turn right. No sign prohibits the turn. The cross street has a green light, and a pedestrian with a WALK signal has just started across the crosswalk in front of your car, from the far side of your street. What should you do?
A is stopped facing red in the westbound lane and plans to turn right. B has just started north across the crosswalk from the opposite side of A’s street; the cross street has green and B has WALK.
Correct answer: Wait until the pedestrian is past your path, because the person has the right-of-way
Why
A right turn on red is a turn against a red light, so everyone with a green light or a walk signal goes first. Stop behind the stop line or crosswalk, look left for traffic, and look right and ahead for pedestrians and bicyclists before you move. If a sign such as NO TURN ON RED is posted, wait for the green light.
