Passing target: 80% (32/40)
You drive on a busy road with one lane each way and a shared center turn lane. You plan to turn left into a store driveway about two blocks ahead. How should you use the center lane?
A travels in the right through lane beside a shared center turn lane with opposing turn arrows. B approaches on the other side; the store driveway is still two blocks ahead.
Correct answer: Enter it shortly before the driveway, then turn left from it when oncoming traffic clears.
Why
A shared center turn lane lets left-turning drivers leave the through lane, so the traffic behind them does not have to stop. Drivers from both directions use the same lane, so look ahead in it for turning vehicles that come toward you before you enter. New Hampshire law also lets you use it to make a U-turn or to wait when you turn left onto the road from a driveway, but never for through travel or passing.
