Passing target: 80% (32/40)
You plan to go straight at an intersection where the signal shows a steady red light. There is a white stop line before the crosswalk. What must you do?
A approaches a steady red light from well behind the white stop line. A striped crosswalk extends across the roadway beyond that line. The card says A plans to drive straight; no stop point or route is highlighted.
Correct answer: Stop behind the stop line and stay stopped until the light turns green
Why
After a full stop, a right turn on red is allowed unless a sign prohibits it, as long as you yield; going straight must wait for the green. When the light turns green, look left, right and left again before you move, because a driver on the cross street may still run the red. Where there is no stop line, stop before the crosswalk, and if there is no crosswalk either, stop before you enter the intersection.
