Passing target: 80% (40/50)
On a two-lane road, the center has two yellow lines: a solid line next to your lane and a broken line next to the oncoming lane. Who may cross the center line to pass here, when it is safe?
The yellow center marking is solid beside A’s lane and broken beside the opposing lane. A follows a pickup in the lane next to the solid line.
Correct answer: Only oncoming drivers, since the broken line is on their side.
Why
New Jersey's center-line rules are simple: two solid lines mean no passing from either side, one broken line allows passing only from that side, and two broken lines allow passing from both sides. Any pass must be finished before the lines become solid again. Even where passing is allowed, pass only when the oncoming lane is clear far enough ahead to finish safely.
