During your road test, the examiner asks you to back up about 100 feet in a straight line. How should you position yourself?
A is on a straight clear road. The card states the examiner’s request to reverse about 100 feet; the driver’s body and hand position are not revealed.
Correct answer: Turn your head and body right, look out the rear window, left hand atop the wheel.
Why
The view to the rear is limited, so check that the path is clear with your mirrors and by turning to look before you start. Back at walking speed and stop completely before you shift into a forward gear. If you must turn while reversing, as in parallel parking, use both hands on the wheel; palming it with one hand is dangerous and can fail the road test.
