You are driving at 55 mph when a front tire blows out, and the car pulls hard to one side. What should you do?
Correct answer: Grip the wheel firmly, keep the car straight, lift off the gas, and let it coast.
Why
A blowout makes the car pull toward the side of the failed tire, and a sudden brake or steering input can turn that pull into a spin. Your first goal is control; your second is to lose speed slowly. Only after the car has slowed should you steer gently to a safe area off the roadway and turn on your hazard flashers.
