A New Jersey Transit bus pulls out of the travel lane to a bus stop, lets passengers off, and then signals to move back into the lane you are driving in. You are coming up from behind. What must you do?
A approaches a transit bus from behind. The bus is in a roadside bay and its left turn signal is flashing, also shown in an enlarged detail.
Correct answer: Yield and let the bus move back into the lane it left at the stop.
Why
The rule covers only a bus returning to its lane after a stop to pick up or drop off passengers. Once the bus is back in the normal flow of traffic, you do not have to yield to it when it changes lanes. The bus driver must still drive with due care when merging back.
