School Zones, Railways & Work AreasStandalone practice
At 7:45 a.m., you drive past a school while children are walking to class. Signs mark the area as a school zone. What is the maximum speed that New Mexico law allows?
Correct answer: 15 mph
Why
Children near schools may run or ride into the street without looking, and a low speed gives you more time to see them and stop. The 15 mph limit applies while children are going to or leaving school; at other times, obey the normal posted limit. In a school zone, also watch for children who step out from between parked cars.
