Traffic Signals & Road MarkingsStandalone practice
You drive on a two-lane road with double solid yellow center lines. You want to turn left into a gas station driveway on the other side of the road. What is the rule?
A is on a two-way road facing a gas station driveway across two solid yellow center lines. No turn path is drawn in the question.
Correct answer: You may cross the lines to turn left into the driveway when it is safe.
Why
Double solid lines are the strongest center marking: no passing and no lane changes across them. The law makes one exception, a left turn to enter or leave the road, such as into a driveway or, where it is allowed, a U-turn. Before you turn, yield to oncoming vehicles that are close enough to be a hazard.
