Passing target: 70% (14/20)
It is night on a two-lane rural road. Just before a narrow bridge, the white line at the right edge of your lane starts to slant toward the yellow center line. A large truck is coming from the other direction. What should you do?
At night, westbound A approaches a short bridge as the white line on its right bends inward toward the yellow center lines. A large truck B comes from the opposite direction in the other lane.
Correct answer: Slow down and keep your car inside the edge line as the lane gets narrower
Why
A solid edge line shows where the travel lane stops and the shoulder starts. When it bends in, the paved road ahead has less width, often at a bridge or an underpass. New York law requires a lower speed on a narrow roadway, and you may cross an edge line only when an officer or an official sign tells you to. At night, low beams and a lower speed help both drivers keep to their own lanes where the space is tight.
