Passing target: 70% (14/20)
You are driving at night with your high beams on, on an unlit highway with two lanes in each direction. Under New York law, when must you switch to low beams?
At night, A travels with high beams in the right eastbound lane of an unlit highway with two lanes in each direction. B approaches in the opposite direction; C is ahead of A in the other eastbound lane.
Correct answer: When an oncoming vehicle is within 500 feet, or you are within 200 feet of a vehicle ahead of you.
Why
High-beam glare can blind another driver for a moment, so dim early. Also dim your lights for pedestrians who walk toward you. If an oncoming driver does not dim, flash to high beam for one second and then back, and look toward the right edge of the road until the vehicle passes.
