Passing target: 70% (14/20)
On a two-lane road with one lane in each direction, the car ahead has stopped to turn left. There is enough paved road to its right for your car. What is true about a pass on the right?
A follows B, which has stopped to turn left from a two-way road. The paved portion of A’s side is wide enough for a car to pass to B’s right.
Correct answer: You may pass on the right, if you stay on the pavement and it is safe.
Why
New York allows a pass on the right in only three cases: the vehicle ahead turns left, the road has room for two or more lanes in each direction, or you are on a one-way road with room for two or more lanes. Even then, pass only when it is necessary and safe. At an intersection, watch for oncoming drivers who turn left into your path, and for pedestrians, cyclists, in-line skaters and moped riders on the right.
