Passing target: 70% (14/20)
You drive on an icy road, and the rear of your car starts to slide to the right. Your car does not have anti-lock brakes. What should you do?
A is on an icy two-lane road. A white arrow beside the rear shows it sliding toward the driver’s right; the card states that A has no anti-lock brakes.
Correct answer: Take your foot off the gas and steer right, toward the side the rear is sliding
Why
As the car straightens, the rear may swing back the other way, so be ready to steer toward that side too. With anti-lock brakes, keep firm, steady pressure on the pedal; without them, pump the pedal gently. To prevent skids, slow down and brake early and gently on snow and ice, and remember that bridges, ramps and overpasses freeze first.
