You need to turn around on a two-lane road that has curves and hills. No sign prohibits U-turns. Which place is legal for a U-turn?
Two alternative locations on a two-lane road are compared: near a hillcrest and on a straight section. Each panel shows the same blue car A in an enlarged road view and marks its position in a side profile below.
Correct answer: A straight part where drivers from both directions can see your car from 500 feet.
Why
A U-turn puts your car across the road, so other drivers need time to see you and stop. Also check for NO U-TURN signs; the manual says U-turns are also illegal in New York City business districts and on limited-access expressways. When you can, turn around in a parking lot or driveway instead, and enter the road while you drive forward, not in reverse.
