It is noon, and a steady rain starts, so you switch on your windshield wipers. Your car's daytime running lights come on by themselves whenever the engine runs. What does New York law require?
A drives along a wet road in daylight rain. The caption states that it is noon, the windshield wipers are on and A’s automatic daytime running lights are on.
Correct answer: Turn on your headlights now, since you are using your wipers because of rain.
Why
Headlights make your car easier for other drivers and pedestrians to see in rain, even when they do not help you see. If an oncoming driver flashes headlights at you in poor visibility, your car was probably hard to see. In heavy rain, also slow down, because worn or underinflated tires can hydroplane and lose their grip.
