You approach a sharp curve on a two-lane road. Which speed plan does the North Carolina handbook recommend?
A approaches a sharp right curve on a two-lane road, staying on its side of the yellow center line. No path or speed adjustment is selected in the question image.
Correct answer: Slow down before the curve, then speed up gradually as you go around it
Why
Tires have a limited amount of grip, and a curve already uses part of it for turning. Braking or a sudden change of speed in the curve uses more grip and can start a skid. Start to turn just before the road bends. On a downhill curve, shift to a lower gear before the descent, brake earlier and approach more slowly than on a level road.
