Your pickup weighs about 5,000 pounds. You hitch a loaded trailer, so the pickup and trailer together weigh about 10,000 pounds. At the same speed, how does your braking distance compare with the pickup alone?
Separate road views compare the same pickup alone at 5,000 pounds and with an enclosed loaded trailer at a combined 10,000 pounds. Both travel at the same speed; the question selects no braking distance.
Correct answer: About twice the distance, because doubling the weight doubles the braking distance.
Why
Weight and speed both make the stopping distance longer. Doubling the weight of a vehicle doubles its braking distance, and doubling its speed makes the braking distance four times as long. When you tow a trailer or carry a heavy load, keep a following gap of four seconds or more, brake earlier, and slow down in strong wind.
