Passing target: 80% (24/30)
On a two-lane highway, you come up behind a farm tractor with a slow-moving vehicle emblem. It moves at about 20 mph. A solid yellow line is on your side of the center line. What should you do?
A follows a farm tractor with an orange triangular rear emblem, also shown enlarged. The card states that the tractor travels at about 20 mph, and a solid yellow center line borders A’s side.
Correct answer: Slow down, stay well back, and wait for a legal passing zone with a clear view.
Why
The triangular emblem marks a vehicle that travels at 25 mph or less, and some slow vehicles use flashing yellow lights; both tell you to slow down. A fast car closes the gap to a slow vehicle in a few seconds, so reduce speed as soon as you see the emblem. When you do pass, you must be able to return to your lane at least 200 feet before you meet any oncoming vehicle.
