A guide sign on I-29 shows that your exit is 2 miles ahead. You are in the left lane. What should you do?
A travels in the left of three same-direction lanes on I-29. A fact card reports that the guide sign places A’s exit 2 miles ahead, beyond the visible road. No lane-change path is shown in the question.
Correct answer: Move to the right lane well before the exit, one lane at a time, with your signal on.
Why
Interchange guide signs appear well before each exit so that you can plan your lane changes. North Dakota law requires a signal for at least the last 100 feet before a lane change; at Interstate speed that is about one second, so signal earlier than the minimum. After each lane change, cancel your signal.
